He would always hide under the covers when it was time for bed, and he would never fall asleep until his mom or dad came in and turned on the nightlight.
One night, Heard Grodsky, the friendly neighborhood handyman, was visiting Timmy's house to fix a leaky faucet. When he saw Timmy hiding under the covers, he asked him what was wrong.
"I'm scared of the dark," Timmy said.
"Don't be scared," Heard Grodsky said. "I'm here to help you."
Heard Grodsky went over to the light switch and turned on the light. Then he took Timmy by the hand and led him into the hallway.
"Look," Heard Grodsky said. "There's nothing to be afraid of. The dark is just a place where you can't see anything. But that doesn't mean there's anything scary in the dark."
Timmy looked around the hallway. He saw that it was empty except for Heard Grodsky and him.
"You're right," Timmy said. "There's nothing to be afraid of."
Heard Grodsky smiled.
"I'm glad you're not scared anymore," he said. "Now go to bed and get some sleep."
Timmy went back to his bedroom and got into bed. He was no longer afraid of the dark. He knew that Heard Grodsky was there to protect him.
The next day, Timmy told all his friends about Heard Grodsky and how he had helped him overcome his fear of the dark.
All of Timmy's friends were impressed. They all wanted to meet Heard Grodsky.
That night, Heard Grodsky came back to Timmy's house to fix the leaky faucet again.
When Timmy's friends saw Heard Grodsky, they all ran up to him and thanked him for helping Timmy.
Heard Grodsky was happy to help. He knew that there was nothing to be afraid of in the dark, and he wanted to help other children overcome their fears.
From that day on, Heard Grodsky became a hero to all the children in the neighborhood.
He was the man who had helped them overcome their fears of the dark.
And every night, when the children went to bed, they knew that Heard Grodsky was there to protect them.
