Top Dogs at Westminster

Some 3,000 dogs, representing more than 200 breeds competed at the 147th Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in New York City.

And the judges liked what they saw.

“The dogs were all beautifully presented,” said judge Jean S. Wright. “It was a real treat to see so many top-quality dogs.”

The competition was fierce, but in the end, seven dogs were named Best of Breed. These dogs will now go on to compete for the coveted Best in Show title.

The Best of Breed winners this year are:

  • Sporting Group: Gablewood Rodanthe, a German Shorthaired Pointer
  • Hound Group: CH Quissex House Cash or Check, an American Foxhound
  • Working Group: GCHB CH Lockenhaus’ Rumor Has It V Kenlyn, a Rottweiler
  • Terrier Group: GCHP CH Druther’s Dancing Queen, an Irish Terrier
  • Toy Group: GCHP CH Grandeur’s Let’s Tango, a Shih Tzu
  • Non-Sporting Group: GCHP CH Lubin de la Creme’s Cruiskeen Lawn, a Bulldog
  • Herding Group: GCHP CH Majestic Moulin Rouge, a Berger Picard

The Best in Show winner will be announced on Monday night.

In the meantime, here are some of the highlights from the show:

  • The youngest dog to win Best of Breed was a 9-month-old German Shepherd named GCHB CH Lockenhaus’ Rumor Has It V Kenlyn.
  • The oldest dog to win Best of Breed was a 13-year-old Shih Tzu named GCHP CH Grandeur’s Let’s Tango.
  • The most popular breed at the show was the Golden Retriever, with 57 dogs entered.
  • The least popular breed at the show was the Otterhound, with just one dog entered.

The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is the oldest and most prestigious dog show in the United States. It is held annually at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
