Mother's Day Canada

Mother's Day is a special day to celebrate the women who have brought us into this world and raised us with love and care. It is a day to show our mothers how much we appreciate them and all that they do for us.

In Canada, Mother's Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. This year, Mother's Day will be celebrated on May 14th. On this day, people all across Canada will take the time to honor their mothers with gifts, cards, flowers, and special meals.

The History of Mother's Day

The origins of Mother's Day can be traced back to ancient times. In ancient Greece, there was a festival called the "Mother's Day" that was held in honor of the goddess Rhea, the mother of Zeus. In ancient Rome, there was a festival called the "Matronalia" that was held in honor of Juno, the queen of the gods and the protector of women and marriage.

In the United States, the first Mother's Day was celebrated in 1908. Anna Jarvis, a woman from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, started the movement to establish Mother's Day after her mother passed away in 1905. Jarvis wanted to create a day to honor all mothers and to show them how much they are loved and appreciated.

Jarvis's idea quickly gained popularity, and in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation making Mother's Day a national holiday. Mother's Day is now celebrated in many countries around the world, including Canada.
