Mick Barry: Making Change Happen
Mick Barry is a passionate and dedicated politician who has been fighting for the rights of working people for over 20 years. As a member of the People Before Profit/Solidarity party, Mick has a long history of standing up for what he believes in, even when it's not popular.
From Grassroots Activist to Elected Official
Mick's political journey began in the early 1990s when he became involved in the anti-water charges movement. He quickly rose through the ranks of the campaign, becoming one of its most vocal and effective leaders. His work on the water charges campaign helped to raise awareness of the issue and put pressure on the government to back down.
In 2004, Mick was elected to Cork City Council, where he served for 12 years. During his time on the council, Mick fought for a range of progressive causes, including affordable housing, public transport, and workers' rights. He also played a key role in the campaign to save Cork's historic Beamish & Crawford brewery.
In 2016, Mick was elected to the Dáil (Irish parliament) as a member of the People Before Profit/Solidarity party. Since then, he has been a tireless advocate for working people, fighting for better wages, working conditions, and social protections.
A Strong Voice for Social Justice
Mick is a passionate advocate for social justice. He believes that everyone deserves a fair chance in life, regardless of their background or income. He has been a vocal critic of austerity measures, which he believes have disproportionately impacted the most vulnerable in society.
Mick is also a strong supporter of trade unions and the right to strike. He believes that workers have the right to stand up for their rights and improve their working conditions.
A Commitment to Real Change
Mick is not afraid to challenge the status quo. He believes that the current system is not working for ordinary people and that it needs to be changed. He is committed to fighting for a more just and equitable society, where everyone has a fair chance to succeed.
