Say No to Tony Marryatt's Pay Rise

$68,000 chief's pay rise a kick in the teeth for earthquake-embattled residents

Overwhelming disgust and anger greeted the news that the controversial CEO of Christchurch city council, Tony Marryatt, was to receive a 14.4% pay rise - and worse still, it is back dated. Hundreds of letters to the editor of the Press, a Facebook page, petition online, and talkback show comments indicate that this move is one of the most unpopular by the council in living memory.

Councillors who voted for it say that it is merit-based; what merit is this, exactly? Marryatt's lack of presence and poor communication, his refusal to return from holiday after the December 23rd shocks, and his preference instead to play golf during the working week (January 11) are just  a few obvious examples of demerit, not merit. Council bungles must also surely stop at his door.

If YOU are fed up with the cycle of comparative pay that has its supreme example in this 14.4% pay rise for the Christchurch City Council CEO, Tony Marryatt, join the protest on Wednesday  February 1, at 12 noon outside the council offices.
