*How to Rekey a Schlage Deadbolt in 5 Easy Steps*

Step 1: Gather Your Tools

You'll need a new key, a screwdriver, and a key rekeying kit. The kit will come with a set of pins that correspond to the different key cuts.

Step 2: Remove the Lock Cylinder

Insert the key into the lock and turn it to the unlocked position. Using the screwdriver, remove the two screws that hold the lock cylinder in place. Pull the cylinder out of the lock.

Step 3: Disassemble the Lock Cylinder

Use a small screwdriver or your key to push down on the retaining clip that holds the pins in place. Remove the clip and the pins will fall out.

Step 4: Reassemble the Lock Cylinder

Insert the new key into the lock cylinder and match the cuts on the key to the spaces in the cylinder. Place the pins in the spaces that correspond to the key cuts.

Step 5: Reinstall the Lock Cylinder

Slide the lock cylinder back into the lock and tighten the screws. Test the new key to make sure it works properly.
