Essay

Millions of people know about global warming. It could be manmade, or it could be natural. There’s a huge controversy on whether us human beings of the earth are the reason of the huge dilemma of global warming, or if it’s just a natural cause from the sun rays being trapped on earth more than usual. Nobody can really decide on just one cause, because everyone thinks it’s the other reason due to the amount of information they know about it. I’m going to explain what scientific evidence there is to contribute to the idea that the global warming we all know about is in fact manmade.

One main piece of evidence that contributes to the opinion that global warming is manmade is the amount of scientific research that has been put into it. Direct observations by scientists find that CO2 levels are rising sharply due to human activity. Such little things that we don’t really notice such as just driving a car adds on to the problem of global warming. Cars burn fossil fuels which release into the air and pollute the air. The polluted air then becomes trapped inside earth due to the Earth’s natural greenhouse effect. It makes unclean air that humans breathe, which can cause health problems. But the major thing it does is effect areas that are normally cold. It makes the areas warmer which can destroys ecosystems.

Scientific studies and observations reveal proof that consistent mankind things which happen every day add more heat into the natural greenhouse effect which causes more global warming. Global warming isn’t 100% manmade, just because the sun naturally heats the earth. The additional heat that is created from burning fossil fuels causes places like Antarctica to melt more. The additional melting makes sea levels rise on coastal areas and it results in no home for the animals that live there. Polar bears have been dying more due to the extreme melting of Antarctica. They search miles and miles for solid ice to stand on, but only find water and very thin ice which breaks very easily. It causes the polar bears to drown due to exhaustion. So just simple things like cars cause melting on glaciers and icecaps which destroy ecosystems for animals and plant life.

Earth’s atmosphere contains natural greenhouse gases which act to keep the lower layers of the atmosphere warmer than they usually are. Greenhouse gases trap infrared radiation — the radiant heat energy that the Earth naturally sends back to space due to reflecting off the icecaps. Mankind’s burning of fossil fuels releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and this is believed to be enhancing the Earth’s natural greenhouse effect. As of 2008, the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere was about 40% to 45% higher than it was before the start of the industrial revolution in the 1800’s.

Al Gore’s film “An Inconvenient Truth” goes into depth of the problem of global warming. It may say it’s manmade, or it may say it’s natural. Many things contribute to global warming but they may not be the absolute cause of it. When there is more carbon dioxide in the air, the temperature is higher. Mankind activities add more carbon dioxide into the air .CO2 levels have raised by 80%.  Over the last 14 years, the 10 hottest years of the earth have occurred. There is a lot of reasoning and evidence which I have state behind the claim that global warming is indeed manmade, and not just natural. If you gather information about global warming, the evidence will prove that mankind is a major cause of the global warming everyone is living in today. Everyday scientists do research of global warming to provide the media with evidence. My evidence that I have stated completely explains why my claim, that global warming is indeed manmade, is true. It shows why I claimed that and informs you of our problem that children and adults live in at this very moment.
