Gregg Doyel: Indiana basketball is dead. Long live Indiana basketball.

In the wake of Indiana's disappointing loss to Purdue, Doyel laments the state of the Hoosiers' program but finds hope in the future.

I've been a Hoosier fan for as long as I can remember. I grew up watching Bob Knight's teams dominate the Big Ten and compete for national championships. I was there when the Hoosiers won the 1987 national title. Those were the days.

But those days are long gone. Indiana basketball is dead.

The Hoosiers haven't won an NCAA Tournament game since 2016. They haven't won a Big Ten championship since 2002. They haven't even finished in the top half of the Big Ten standings since 2013.

The program is in shambles. The fans are apathetic. The future is bleak.

Or is it?

Despite the Hoosiers' recent struggles, I believe there is hope for the future. I believe that Indiana basketball can be great again.

Why? Because I believe in Mike Woodson.

Woodson is a proven winner. He was a star player at Indiana and a successful NBA coach for many years. He knows what it takes to win at the highest level.

Woodson is also a great recruiter. He has already brought in some of the top recruits in the country, and he is not done yet.

I believe that Woodson is the man who can turn Indiana basketball around. He has the experience, the talent, and the passion. He is the right man for the job.

So, while Indiana basketball may be dead right now, I believe that it will soon be reborn. The future is bright for the Hoosiers.

Here are a few reasons why I am optimistic about the future of Indiana basketball:
  • Mike Woodson is a proven winner. He has a successful track record as both a player and a coach.
  • Woodson is a great recruiter. He has already brought in some of the top recruits in the country, and he is not done yet.
  • The Hoosiers have a lot of young talent. They have a bright future, and they are only going to get better.
  • The fans are still passionate. They may be disappointed right now, but they still love their Hoosiers.

I believe that Indiana basketball is on the cusp of a resurgence. I believe that Mike Woodson is the man who can lead the Hoosiers back to glory.

So, while Indiana basketball may be dead right now, I believe that it will soon be reborn. The future is bright for the Hoosiers.
