Understanding Electrical NVQ Level 3 (5357-94)

The 5357-94 Electrical NVQ Level 3 is a work-based competency qualification. It assesses your ability to perform electrical installation tasks in real working environments. Unlike classroom-only training, this qualification requires evidence gathered on-site.

This qualification is only valid for candidates who have completed the technical qualification in either 2365-02 or 8202 Level 3. You must also be actively working in the industry to provide site-based evidence.

NVQ Level 3 Assessment, Duration and Costs

The 5357-94 NVQ Level 3 costs £1800.00 INC VAT (£1500.00 + VAT). The minimum duration is 4-6 months, with a maximum of 9 months. Your assessor will agree a suitable timeframe with you.

To claim the full qualification, you must complete an assignment incorporating two units and an online exam.

Unit 312

• 3-hour practical assessment

• 2-hour written exam

You must pass the practical assessment before taking the written exam.

Unit 212

• 35-question multiple choice closed book online exam

• 80-minute duration

The combined assessment takes 1 to 1.5 consecutive days. These units are charged at £350.00 INC VAT.

An optional one-day practical preparation session is available for £199 INC VAT. Candidates who already hold the 2391-50 initial verification qualification may be exempt from Units 312 and 212.

Completion of the NVQ and AM2S assessments enables you to apply for the JIB Gold Card.

City & Guilds 2391-50 Initial Verification

The 2391-50 qualification focuses on inspection, testing, and certification of electrical installations up to three-phase systems. It prepares you to carry out initial verification professionally and confidently.

The course runs over six full days, delivered mid-week or across three weekends from 9.00am to 5.00pm. It is theory-based and includes written online exams and practical assessment. An additional one-day practical training option is available if required.

Career Progression Opportunities

Electrical NVQ level 3 courses, 2391 Courses open pathways to further development. You can progress to the 2391-51 Periodic Inspection qualification or the Level 4 Award in Design and Verification (2396). Management and leadership qualifications are also available for those moving into supervisory roles.
