CJ Sansom

CJ Sansom is a British author of historical crime fiction. He is best known for his Shardlake series of mysteries, set in the time of Henry VIII.
Sansom was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1952. He graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a degree in law, and worked as a lawyer in London for many years. In 1999, he published his first novel, Dissolution, which introduced the character of Matthew Shardlake, a hunchbacked lawyer who investigates crimes in Tudor England.
The Shardlake series has been praised for its historical accuracy, its complex characters, and its gripping plots. Sansom has won numerous awards for his writing, including the Crime Writers' Association Gold Dagger Award for Best Crime Novel in 2003 for Sovereign.
In addition to the Shardlake series, Sansom has also written several other historical novels, including Dominion (2012), which was shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, and Winter in Madrid (2016).
Sansom is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and an Honorary Fellow of the University of Edinburgh. He lives in London with his wife and two children.
Sansom's writing is characterized by its strong sense of place and its attention to historical detail. He brings the Tudor world vividly to life, and his characters are complex and believable. Sansom is also a master of suspense, and his plots are always kept to a high standard.
I highly recommend Sansom's novels to anyone who enjoys historical fiction. His Shardlake series is a must-read for fans of the genre, and his other novels are also well worth reading.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from Sansom's novels:

  • "The past is a foreign country. They do things differently there."
  • "History is written by the victors, and the losers are forgotten."
  • "The truth is a dangerous thing. It can get you killed."
Sansom's novels are a great way to learn about history and to be entertained at the same time. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
