British couple detained in Iran

A British couple have been detained in Iran for more than two years.
Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a British-Iranian charity worker, was arrested in April 2016 while visiting her family in Iran. She was sentenced to five years in prison on charges of plotting to overthrow the Iranian government. Her husband, Richard Ratcliffe, has been campaigning for her release ever since.
Anoosheh Ashoori, a retired engineer, was arrested in August 2017 while visiting his elderly mother in Iran. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison on charges of spying for Israel. His wife, Sherry Izadi, has also been campaigning for his release.
The British government has repeatedly called for the release of the couple, but Iran has refused. The Iranian government has said that the couple are criminals and that they will not be released until they have served their sentences.
The couple's detention has been widely condemned by human rights groups. Amnesty International has called their detention "arbitrary and unjust" and has called for their immediate release.
The couple's families have been through a very difficult time. They have been separated from their loved ones for years and have had to endure the pain of not knowing when they will be reunited.
The British government must continue to do everything in its power to secure the release of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori. They are innocent people who have been unjustly detained.

In a recent interview, Richard Ratcliffe said that he is "desperate" to see his wife again. He said that he has "never given up hope" that she will be released.

Sherry Izadi said that she is "terrified" for her husband. She said that she is "worried about his health" and that she does not know how much longer he can endure being in prison.

  • The detention of Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe and Anoosheh Ashoori is a travesty of justice.
  • The British government must do everything in its power to secure their release.
