Aberdeen FC: A Journey Back to Glory
From the ashes to the top-flight, Aberdeen FC’s inspiring journey will leave you spellbound.
My first encounter with the Dons was when I was eight years old. I remember sitting on my dad’s shoulders, the deafening roar of the Pittodrie crowd surrounding me as Eoin Jess swooped in to head home a goal. It was an iconic moment for me; the seed was sown, and my love for Aberdeen FC was born.
In the years that followed, I became a regular at Pittodrie, witnessing the ups and downs of the club. The highs were exhilarating: lifting the Scottish Cup in 1990 and the League Cup in 1995. The lows were heartbreaking: the anguish of relegation in 1995 and the financial crisis that threatened the club’s very existence.
Through it all, the fans remained steadfast in their support. Aberdeen FC is more than just a club; it’s a community, a family. We come together on match days, united by our shared passion. The atmosphere at Pittodrie is electric, a symphony of noise and emotion.
One of the most special moments I’ve experienced at Pittodrie was when we played Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup in 1983. Despite the gulf in class, we gave as good as we got, and narrowly lost on penalties.
But it was in 1983 that Aberdeen FC reached the pinnacle of their success. Under the legendary Alex Ferguson, the Dons became the first British club to win the European Cup Winners’ Cup. It was a night that will be forever etched in the memory of every Aberdeen fan.

Then came the dark years. Relegation, financial turmoil, and a sense of despair hung over the club. But just when it seemed like all hope was lost, our fortunes began to change.

  • In 2016, we were promoted back to the Scottish Premiership.
  • In 2018, we won the Scottish League Cup.
And in 2022, we secured third place in the Premiership, achieving our highest league finish in over a decade.
The journey back to glory has been long and arduous, but it has been made all the sweeter by the unwavering support of the fans. Aberdeen FC is more than just a club; it’s a symbol of resilience, determination, and community spirit.
As we look to the future, we do so with optimism and ambition. We have a talented squad, a dedicated manager, and the backing of the best fans in Scotland. The future is bright for Aberdeen FC, and I can’t wait to see what the next chapter holds.
Come on the Dons!
