Dear 2099 Generation

The person who is writing this is currently living in the year 2020. It is the month of February, so the new year is fresh. The world today, along with its plants and waters is so beautiful. You can still see blankets of trees cover the Earth’s surface along with enormous bodies of blue water. There are animals and critters wherever you lay your eyes. As beautiful as it sounds, we all know that in some way nature is being taken for granted. Greed has caused us to use more than what nature provides us. We have taken Earth’s resources to create, use, and destroy. These days, we mostly spend our days indoors surfing the internet or overwhelming our mind with our smartphones. Over time, we have managed to overlook nature. So, several years have passed and I can’t even imagine how advance the world is during your generation, but also how overwhelmed nature must be from human alteration. Although technology has probably taken more control of lives during your generation, always remember the foundation of your lives and appreciate nature more.

The first thing you should do to appreciate nature more is to spend time with nature and broaden your views from the time spent with it. Go outside and look around to see what’s growing and how it’s growing. Observe the animals and landforms and think about how important they truly are. Pay attention to the tiny things and how they contribute to nature. When observing nature, try to figure out how humans are hurting or helping nature with their choices. This can make you aware about how human choices affect our environment. Becoming aware can have an impact on people and cause them to create organizations dedicated to helping the environment. Other than nature broadening your views, it is also known that spending time with nature has its benefits, including reducing stress, increasing happiness, and develops a deeper sense of spirituality (Dienstman).

Another way we can appreciate nature is by helping it. These days, people aren't involved as much in helping the environment as they’re supposed to. Many have busy lives, or they simply don’t care. It’s important to have a healthy ecosystem, because it provides us with clean water, purifies our air, and maintains our soil with rich nutrients. A healthy ecosystem is also crucial for regulating our climate. A shift in climate can cause drastic changes in the Antarctic ice sheets which is home to serval animals. There are many ways we can help the nature around us. You can help by planting trees and plants, picking up trash, and recycling. You can also use less electricity and conserve water. We cannot survive without nature, so it’s very important for us to take care of it as much as we can.

Smart phones and the internet have made it possible to communicate with others around the world, inform us, and guide us to our destination. Although these inventions have made our lives easier, they have also destroyed them in some way. The internet and smart phones are a big distraction in our time. We tend to spend so much time on these electronics that we forget to explore the beautiful world around us. People should participate more in outdoor activities like camping, hiking, gardening, fishing, and playing outdoors. Being outdoors allows you to get hit by the sun’s ray which provide you with Vitamin D. A study also shows that being outdoors helps boost your immune system. Plants produce airborne chemicals that can help increase white blood cells to fight off infections (Scientific Benefits of Being Outdoors).

As the world around us drastically changes and technology becomes more advance, we tend to forget the importance and significance of the world we live in today. I am aware that by your time technology would be much more advance and involved in your life. If this is the case, please remember to always appreciate the world around you, since without it, you wouldn’t be where you are today.
